As we approach Autumn in the Northern Hemisphere, we notice a shift: leaves fall, the nights get darker, temperatures drop and people spend longer indoors. This presents a wonderful opportunity for churches to share the warmth and light of Jesus with their local community.
The Danish and Norwegian term ‘hygge’ (pronounced HOO-gah, and meaning cosiness or comfort and contentment) captures this intentional desire to notice simple pleasures, create cosy atmospheres, and enjoy good company.
In this resource, we’ll create comfortable space for people to connect with each other and deepen their understanding of faith using Psalm 91 which, in doing so, will stimulate conversation about the comfort and protection offered by God in a tumultuous world. You may also like to draw on the safety and protection that Jesus offers as he comforts his disciples with the promise of a prepared place in heaven, in John 14:1-4.
This two-page PDF offers activity ideas that you can use with a youth or intergenerational group - either as a one-off event, or spread over a series of autumn weeks.
