Pet blessing service

In this joyous service outline for all ages, we honour our animal friends and give thanks to our Creator God for all that God has made - including the pets assembled or represented. 

It is also an opportunity to celebrate St Francis of Assisi, who both modelled a sacrificial life and a love for creation, nature and the animal kingdom. There are many stories about Francis’s love for animals, and he is often depicted with a bird in hand.

The feast day of St Francis of Assisi (4 October) has become a prime date for pet blessing services. This service has been written with this in mind.

This engaging intergenerational service:

• focuses on Bible readings that focus on God’s delight in and care for creation – particularly the animal kingdom
• includes a flexible selection of talk ideas, prayers, and interactive worship activities - pick and choose the ones that best suit your context 
  
• includes an opportunity to remember pets who have died
• offers an optional ready-made certificate for pets who have been blessed at the service, or for those waiting at home.
