Roots Children & Youth Magazine issue 145: September-October 2026

Welcome to our September/October issue where we journey with Moses and the Israelites, from the first Passover to Moses’ glimpse of Canaan, as we survey Moses’ incredible legacy. If your group is coming back after a break, you may like to get them up to speed with Moses’ birth story and his encounter with God at the burning bush (covered in our July-August issue). Use the beautiful colour artworks (10 in total, created by our talented illustrator Michelle Barnett) to continue building the Moses timeline. Featured throughout this issue, these insightful pictures will help children to visualise the key elements of Moses’ story. There’s also a new drama ‘Promise made, promise kept’ which draws Moses’ story to a close. Scripture in context reminds us that Moses’ life points to Jesus. And, in Why you don’t need to pass over the Passover with kids, Dr Jared Neusch encourages us to keep going with these trickier lectionary passages as we try and build up Biblical literacy.

For young people and adults, there’s Good Vibrations? – a Discovering God resource exploring how Christians can respond to secular views such as Manifestation and the Law of Attraction. And we offer an intergenerational harvest resource – Hygge Harvest – helping to share the warmth of God’s light with your community during ‘cosy season’.

With the new academic year being a time of transition for children and young people, Roots have a series of beautiful downloadable prayer cards, designed to offer support and inspiration to all those facing change.
